Giveaway: David Austin Roses!

Fragrant, lush, and bountiful, David Austin roses showcase the perennial garden with spring and fall flowers. At the Antique Rose Emporium, luscious Graham Thomas blooms with abandon, growing to 5-8’.

In a mixed border, it joins hummingbird rave, Cigar plant (Cuphea micropetala), along with bunching grasses.

I asked ARE’s Robbi Will about some of their favorite David Austin roses. Molineux is shorter than Graham Thomas with peachy tones.
David Austin English Rose 'Molineux' is an excellent garden rose and also superb as a low hedge. It repeat-flowers throughout the season. The beautiful rosette-shaped flowers are a lovely rich yellow. 'Molineux' is an exceptionally healthy rose with abundant blooms on a nicely-shaped bush, 3 ft tall by 2 ft wide. Its fragrance is Tea Rose with a musky background. RHS "Award of Garden Merit." (David Austin 1994, Ausmol).
Heritage is another that has performed well.
David Austin's 'Heritage' is an English Rose with delicate shell-like coloring and beauty. Its medium-sized cup-shaped blooms are a very soft, clear pink, set off by outer petals that are palest pink, nearly white. This is a strong healthy rose with excellent repeat flowering. The stems are nearly thornless. The fragrance is beautiful with overtones of fruit, honey and carnation on a myrrh background. It grows to 5 ft tall by 4 ft wide or 7 ft as a climber. It will produce a fine array of rose hips if not deadheaded. (David Austin 1984, Ausblush).
And Abraham Darby.
'Abraham Darby' is one of the most splendid of all David Austin Roses. Its very large cup-shaped flowers are apricot and yellow at first, becoming tinted with pink over time. The bush is well-rounded with vigorous, healthy growth and hardiness. It grows to 5 ft tall by 5 ft wide or 8 ft as a climber. Its fruity fragrance is strong and rich with a refreshing sharpness. It is an excellent repeat-bloomer. (David Austin 1985, Auscot).
Lady of Shallot gets high marks on disease resistance.
David Austin and his team consider 'Lady of Shalott' one of the most reliable and hardy roses they have bred. It is highly resistant to disease and blooms with remarkable continuity throughout the season. The young buds are a rich orange-red and open to form chalice-shaped blooms filled with loosely arranged petals. Each petal has a salmon pink upper side that contrasts beautifully with the attractive golden-yellow reverse side. The overall effect is pale coppery-orange. The warm Tea rose fragrance has pleasing hints of spiced apple and cloves. The rose quickly forms a large, bushy shrub with slightly arching stems. The mid-green leaves have attractive, slightly bronzed tones when young. Excellent repeat-flowering. Grows to approximately 4 ft tall x 3 1/2 ft wide. RHS "Award of Garden Merit."
