Herbal Body Scrub and Oils

by Trisha

Favorites at Lake Austin Spa Resort include scrubs made from freshly ground, organic herbs. If you don’t have fresh herbs available, dried are fine, too. Be sure to use herbs that haven’t been sprayed with pesticides.

Along with rosemary and lavender, other good herbs include lemon verbena, rose geranium, and sages. Make your own combinations for a fragrance you like.

Use scrubs right away or refrigerate to use within a day or two.

Rosemary sea salt scrub

Strip leaves from stems and combine in a spice grinder with coarse sea salt. You can use a finer salt if you want less exfoliation. In a bowl, mix the salt/herb mixture with an herb-fused oil (enough to make a paste). Scrub knees, elbows, hands, and feet and shower off. For even more moisturizing, follow up with an herbal lotion or the herbal oil.

Lavender sugar scrub

This one is good if you’ve been out in the garden and come back with lots of cuts and abrasions that a salt scrub could sting. In the spice grinder, combine lavender flowers and sugar. Provence and Twickle Purple are good fragrant varieties.

Herbal infused oil

In a stainless steel pot, combine herbs with virgin olive oil or almond oil. Simmer at lowest setting for about 25 minutes. Let sit overnight, strain, and add vitamin E or jojoba for even more skin nourishing.
