Fall into NEW CTG Episodes!
You wouldn’t know it by the thermometer, but fall is really on the way! And that means new Central Texas Gardener episodes starting October 4 to launch Season 30.
How Can I Help: Doug Tallamy
October 4
The journey we make from plant passion to holistic connections is the most important one we face as gardeners. And to help us on our way is Doug Tallamy, professor, entomologist, ecologist, and author of Nature’s Best Hope, The Nature of Oaks, and his latest, How Can I Help?
October and early November is the best time to sow wildflower seeds for next spring’s flowers. We head to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for pro planting tips with Andrea DeLong-Amaya.
Gardens of Texas: Pam Penick
October 11
Blogger and author Pam Penick waltzes us across the state with her latest, gorgeous book, Gardens of Texas.
Garden Conservancy Open Days Travis County
October 18
Preview the Garden Conservancy’s Travis County Open Days tour on November 8, including our location visit to a year-round pollinator and bird habitat designed by our friends at Delta Dawn Gardens.
Traditions Beyond Day of the Dead Celebration
October 25
As we transition seasons, let’s bring along ideas for color as we head into winter. Daly Young from Bloomer’s Garden Center in Elgin styles up containers and garden beds for cool weather beauty with native grasses, perennials, and annual flowers and edibles.
Lucinda Hutson’s been part of CTG since the very start. Last fall, we returned to her “Life’s a Fiesta” purple cottage to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos in a loving tribute to family, friends, and precocious pets.
Rain Gardens, Texas Trees
November 1
Texas Arbor Day comes November 7, so let’s get our tree list going! Ben Gillilan, owner of Grizzly’s Hidden Falls Nursery & Landscape in Nolanville, picks some of his favorite native trees for spring and fall color, small spaces, and shade.
Next Generation Gardeners
November 8
Texas Gardener magazine has taught generations of gardeners, including me! Current owner Jay White joins John Hart for a timeline look at how gardening has changed and where it’s heading next. Our location garden inspires rain garden designs to plant this fall. Photo by Sally White.
Of course, Daphne Richards highlights your photos from around the state, and Wizzie Brown helps us tell queen and monarch caterpillars and adult butterflies apart.
And meet our CTG neighbors who share their stories and gardens with us.
Next week: Take a fun look back at where we started and how we grew!
